Drop Art Photography

Transparent and translucent liquids have the same photographic properties as transparent and translucent glass, so it is only natural that I would eventually enjoy making drop art photographs.

The formations are the results of drops of liquid colliding with each other. The shape of a formation is created by a combination of variables including how far the drops fall, the size of each drop, the timing of when each drop is dispensed, the liquids being used, and the state of the collision at the moment it is captured in the photo. The action of the colliding drops is stopped by the very short burst of light -- usually lasting about 1/20,000 second -- produced by multiple flash units firing at exactly the same time.
